| During a harsh winter in the Forlorn Forest, Kulgar
was born into the Ulfhaeth (wolf- slayers) tribe of the Plentiful
Huntinglands. His mother died during his birth and he was raised by
his father, Hakon, the much respected head of the Horse-clan. One night
their small tribal village fell victim to a midnight raid by the Fists.
Tents were swiftly put to torch and the raiders slaughtered the old and
wounded. The young and able were taken to the Hold of Stonefist where they
would be sold into slavery. Among the prisoners was Kulgar. Just sixteen
winters old, he was sold to a merchant and put to work at the oars of his
merchant ship, the Seahorse.
Within the following two years Kulgar was treated fairly and learned much
about ships and sailing. The Seahorse sailed south to the Azure Sea, stopping
at many ports, and then continued north to a large city called Greyhawk.
While crossing the Nyr Dyv, however, the ship was destroyed during the
night by a raging storm which left few survivors. When dawn finally spread
her golden rays upon the waters, Kulgar Hakonson was being rescued by a
passing ship. The ship soon put into port and Kulgar was set ashore as
a free man. Now eighteen, he set himself to the task of earning enough
money to survive. It is here, in Littleberg,
that Kulgar's adventures do truly begin; for it is man's destiny to follow
where the heart leads... |
