The Kulgar Campaign began as a 1st Edition AD&D game way back in 1981. It eventually graduated to a modified version of the 2nd Edition rules and continues to run (sporadically) to this day. This is the campaign that inspired the creation of the kulgar.org website. The original campaign logs are a combination of hand-written and computer printed pages that fill two large three-ringed binders while a third binder contains old character and adventure records. There is also a large collection of hand-written DM notes (including drawings and maps).

The campaign's overall plot has developed slowly over the course of many years and is gradually coming to it's conclusion. Someday soon, Kulgar and Tharrison will sail off into the sunset. That is, if they can survive the hurricane first...

The Game Dates

The dates on the left-hand side of each page represent the days in "game time" and are not the actual dates of the playing sessions. These dates are meant to be interpreted thusly:

day month year
09 May 01

Kulgar Campaign Specifics

Since the "game year" was never established in the early days of the campaign, at some forgotten moment in time, I chose to forgo the real-life tradition of January 1st being the new year's first day and decided to adopt my own system. Since May 9th was the first day in the campaign, I simply established May 1st as the beginning of each calendar year and started it all with year 1. This system reflects a more personal year-by-year account of Kulgar's travels. It, therefore, becomes very easy to look at 01 May 08 and determine that, "Gosh, Kul's been traveling around for eight years! Where has the time gone? Maybe it's time to sit down and take a rest!"

During the playing session dated Friday 23 October 1998, the GM discovered a notation indicating that the first game year was 576. For now, I intend to maintain my own established method, but at least we now know the year!

The Brackets

The session dates (and sometimes other out-of-character information, such as: page numbers, hit points, damage, etc..) are indicated in brackets.

The Bold Characters

Persons, places or items that are appearing for the first time in the story (or are being reintroduced) are marked in bold character.
